Chief Quality & Medical Officer and Deputy Director of Quality and Population Health Management, California Department of Health Care Services
Palav Babaria, MD, MHS, was appointed as Chief Quality & Medical Officer and Deputy Director of Quality and Population Health Management for the California Department of Health Care Services in March 2021. In this role, she is responsible for the policy, implementation and oversight of all quality, health equity and population health management activities in the Medi-Cal program which covers almost 15 million members, or 1 in 3 Californians. Prior to this role, she spent almost a decade in senior leadership roles at Alameda Health System overseeing clinical care, operations and value-based payment for ambulatory services. Palav is a primary care internal medicine physician and still sees patients at a local federally qualified health center.
