State Representative, North Carolina
Representative Maria Cervania was sworn in as North Carolina State Representative for District 41 in January 2023. She became one of two first-ever Asian American women elected to the North Carolina General Assembly and the first Filipino American elected in the state. Maria serves on the House Oversight and Reform, Appropriations, Appropriations—Health & Human Services, Health, Energy & Public Utilities, and Select Education Reform Committees.
An epidemiologist/biostatistician and a public health professional, she has held a variety of roles, including in Department of Family and Child Protective Services in Texas. She worked in crisis management during the early HIV/AIDS epidemic, the Chicago Heat Wave, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and the H1N1 Influenza (Avian Flu) and COVID-19 pandemics.
Maria has devoted her life to public service and pledges to uphold the health, well-being, and highest quality of life for all people in North Carolina from now into the future.
