Sarah Hatton is the Deputy of Administration and Coverage at Virginia’s Medicaid agency, which serves 2 million individuals with a $24.7 billion annual budget. Prior to assuming her role in March 2021, Sarah served as the Senior Advisor for Administration. Her previous experience includes over 15 years of experience in the areas of policy, operations, and Medicaid eligibility in both local and state government.  

In her current role, Sarah has oversight of the statewide Medicaid call center, central application processing, and the justice involved processing hub. As a member of the agency’s executive leadership team, Sarah engages in strategic policy discussions, budgets, policy, and operational decisions. She has led the charge for numerous large-scale initiatives for Virginia’s Medicaid program, including the unwinding after the ending of the continuous coverage requirements put in place as part of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.  

Sarah’s passions include increasing access and sustaining quality health coverage for all Virginians while improving the Medicaid member experience. Sarah holds a Master of Health Services Administration and is a graduate of the Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute and the Governor’s Leadership Academy.
