Anthony F. Lehman, M.D., M.S.P.H., is Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. His clinical, teaching, and research activities have focused on serving persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and examining outcomes, the impacts of substance use disorders, the effectiveness of Assertive Community Treatment programs, supported employment, and interventions for families. In 1998 the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill presented Lehman with its Distinguished Service Award. He recently chaired the Work Group updating the American Psychiatric Association’s Practice Guideline for the Treatment of Patients with Schizophrenia. November 2004
