David Helms’ career has focused on advancing health care improvements through planning, policy analysis, and research and on the development of new initiatives to expand coverage for the uninsured. He is currently a senior associate in the department of health policy and management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he teaches a course on state health care policy. From 2000 to 2010, Dr. Helms was president of AcademyHealth, the national society for the fields of health services research and health policy analysis. From 2011 to 2014, Dr. Helms served as director of the LMI Center for Health Reform working on the implementation of federal and state health exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act. He received his PhD in economics and public administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. April 2017
