As the demand for evidence to support health interventions grows, the sophistication and integration of data systems and repositories must grow with it. Still, many data sources—both public and private—remain siloed, creating a significant barrier to closing the gap between evidence and practice. Integrated data systems present immense potential to identify risk factor, service, and demand patterns across time and geography to develop targeted evidence-based policy.
At the RSG meetings this fall, state policymakers convened to discuss how they could bridge their states’ data infrastructure and governance to address complex issues such as healthcare superutilizers, early childhood intervention, criminal justice reform, and the opioid crisis. National experts and state leaders expanded on how integrated data systems can facilitate faster and lower cost scientific studies to directly inform care, and how integrated administrative data can be used for policy analysis, program evaluation, predictive modeling, and performance measurement.
