Howard Markel, MD, PhD, Editor-in-Chief of The Milbank Quarterly, was inducted into the Johns Hopkins University Society of Scholars on April 11. He is also the George E. Wantz Distinguished Professor of the History of Medicine and director of the Center for the History of Medicine at the University of Michigan.
The Society—the first of its kind in the nation—inducts former postdoctoral fellows and faculty from the Johns Hopkins University (JHU), who have “gained marked distinction elsewhere in their fields of physical, biological, medical, social, or engineering sciences or in the humanities.” Markel received his PhD from JHU—and completed his internship, residency, and fellowship in general pediatrics there.
Markel is among 16 newly elected members to the Society. There are 642 members in total. The Society was founded in 1967.
