As the Director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC), Puthiery, DO, leads the strategic direction and oversight of public health initiatives to promote and protect the health of all Mainers. In this role, she spearheads efforts to effectively manage challenges including infectious disease outbreaks, chronic disease prevention, health impacts because of disasters and the changing climate, and health inequities and disparities. A clinician and epidemiologist, Puthiery collaborates with government agencies, health care organizations, community partners, and stakeholders to develop and implement evidence-based policies and programs aimed at improving population health outcomes. She previously served as Director of the Division of Public Health in Chinle, Arizona, serving the population of the Indian Health Service Navajo Area. She received a medical degree from the University of New England, was Chief Medical Resident at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, N.Y., and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Burkina Faso.
